Biography

Former Miner star Tameka Sumter is in her second year as a program coordinator for the UTEP soccer team. She returned to the Sun City to take the position starting in the 2016 season. Her duties include, but are not limited to, game-day filming, and assisting with practice and game-day set-up.

Sumter was one of the most prolific forwards in program history who made an indelible mark during her four-year career (2006-09). She ranks second all time at the school in career goals (43) and points (98). The speedster is tied for first in multi goal games (11), shares third in match winners (10) and game-winning assists (seven).

Sumter, along with fellow program coordinator Azia Nicholson and current Miner senior Aleah Davis, are the only Miners to be recognized as All-Region honorees in three separate seasons. Sumter was a third-team honoree in 2007 and 2008 while elevating to the second team in 2009. She secured All Conference USA accolades in each of those campaigns while grabbing a spot on league's All-Freshman team in 2006.

She started 69 of 84 career games and logged more than 5,000 minutes of action on the pitch.

Sumter graduated from UTEP with a degree in health promotion in May 2011.
