Angie McGee scored a career-high 20 points and hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left, icing UTEP's 68-64 win over New Mexico State on Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center.
McGee, who had 15 points in the second half, helped the Miners (4-3) split the season series with I-10 rival NMSU (4-4).
UTEP was in control most of the evening. The Miners never trailed, and opened up their biggest lead of the game (34-20) with 1:31 to go in the first half on two foul shots by Charnette Phelps.
UTEP led 34-23 at the half, and held a 64-54 advantage on a layup by Ana Valtierra with 2:27 to play.
A free throw by Noni Wharemate put UTEP ahead 66-59 with 34 seconds remaining, but the Aggies weren't finished.
A layup by Nicole Black sliced the deficit to 66-61 and, after a pair of missed free throws by the Miners' Vaida Zagurskyte, Black hit a three-pointer to pull NMSU to within 66-64.
But McGee's foul shots propelled UTEP to its second straight victory.
Zagurskyte added 16 points and Marta Dydek 11 for the Miners, while Wharemate had a career-high nine assists.
Princess Moore scored 22 points and Black had 14 for the Aggies, who shot 43.1 percent. UTEP shot 51 percent and forced 17 turnovers.
NMSU stayed in the game by hitting eight three-point shots and outrebounding the Miners 34-32.
UTEP hosts Montana State (7-3) on Monday at noon MT.
