Ana Valtierra scored a career-high 21 points as the UTEP women's basketball team rolled past Nevada 76-43 at the Don Haskins Center, Saturday.
UTEP (13-9, 8-5) moved into a tie for third place in the WAC with SMU with the victory. Nevada falls to 3-20 overall and 2-11 in the league.
The Miners limited the Wolf Pack to only nine first half points, as they took a 32-9 lead into the break. Nevada shot only 13.6 percent to UTEP's 40.0 percent in the opening stanza.
Valtierra finished with career highs for points, three-pointers made and steals. She canned 5-of-6 three pointers and closed with six steals.
UTEP, which led by as many as 40, 57-17, in the second half, held the Wolf Pack to just 25.5 percent shooting and 32 rebounds. The Miners shot 44.3 percent and grabbed 49 boards, including 16 on the offensive end.
Ingrid Goslin and Kia Dowell also finished in double figures in points for UTEP. Dowell had a season best 14, while Goslin posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Charnette Phelps just missed out on a double-double, closing with nine points and 11 boards.
Shermeka Henry paced Nevada with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
UTEP will face San Jose State and Hawaii on the road next weekend.
