Playing in front of 5,400 fans, the Mexican national team got past the UTEP soccer team 4-0 at Dudley Field in El Paso, Tuesday.
"I was impressed with our effort," said UTEP head coach Kevin Cross. "That was the Olympic team period. To play that well against a team who just beat the Canadian national team is impressive."
Maribel Dominguez, one of the world's top players, got Team Mexico out in front in the 16th minute. She was assisted by Fatima Leyva.
In the 30th minute, Patricia Perez scored her first of three goals.
Team Mexico led 2-0 at the intermission, out shooting UTEP 12-3.
The second half was all Mexico offensively, as it had a 12-0 shot advantage. Perez netted scores in the 52nd and 55th minutes to complete her hat trick. Evelyn Lopez was credited with an assist on Perez's first goal of the second frame.
Despite the final score, Kyla Clark gave UTEP a staunch performance in the net. She faced 24 shot and picked up seven individual saves (UTEP also had one team save).
The physical game resulted in 11 fouls by UTEP -- including eight in the second talk -- to Mexico's six.
