UTEP Basketball Player Branch to Transfer

UTEP forward Stanley Branch announced on Monday that he is leaving the Miner basketball program and will transfer to a school yet to be determined.

“I enjoyed being at UTEP for the last year,” Branch said. “However, I made this decision based on what I felt was best for me right now. I will visit with my family in the next few weeks to decide the best place for me to continue my basketball career.

“I’d like to thank coach Sadler for giving me the opportunity to play at UTEP,” Branch said. “I’d also like to thank [Director of Basketball Operations] David Anwar for being a special friend to me and my family. I’d like to thank my teammates and the fans for supporting me. I hope the team continues to be successful next year.”

“We are deeply disappointed that Stanley is leaving, because we liked him as a person and believed that he would be a very good player for us down the road,” UTEP coach Doc Sadler said. “It is his decision to leave and we respect that. We wish him the best wherever the future takes him.”

The 6-8, 210-pound Branch played in 19 games for the Miners as a true freshman, scoring 30 points and pulling down 20 rebounds. He previously played at Atlantic City (N.J.) High School and Lutheran Christian Academy in Philadelphia.
