UTEP Adds Canadian Goalkeeper To Signing Class

UTEP soccer coach Kevin Cross announced the signing of Mandy Roche to a National Letter of Intent Thursday.

Roche, who will be a freshman when she enrolls at UTEP next month, is a goalkeeper from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Roche is currently playing for the Nova Scotia Canada Games Team which sits in second place in the Nova Scotia Soccer League's Premier Women's Division at 7-3-3. Roche has five shutouts and a 0.29 goals against average.

She graduated from Dartmouth High School in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where she led the Spartans to the regional final. In 11 games in goal, Roche was 8-3 with eight shutouts and a 0.45 GAA.

"I am very excited to be adding a very talented goalkeeper to the UTEP Soccer program," Cross said. "Mandy is very athletic and technically sound, and will add outstanding depth to our goalkeeper position. She was the final piece to the puzzle for the 2005 season."

In the summer of 2004, she played for the Dartmouth United U18 squad that won the Provincial Championship and finished eighth nationally in Canada.

When the Miners open fall practice in August, they will do so with seven newcomers, including five true freshmen and a pair of transfers.
