Day One Results
Austin, Texas - Senior heptathlete Jallycia Pearson ended the first day of the Texas Relays in fifth place with 3,390 points. Alex Gochenour (Arkansas) is the leader with 3,757 points.
The El Paso native got off to a hot start in the 100m hurdles with a third-place finish; the senior collected a new personal best of 13.69 which ranks 15th in the country.
In the high jump, Pearson cleared 1.63m to finish 12th. She registered a fifth-place finish in the shot put (12.80m/42-0) to climb into fifth place in the overall standings.
To end day one, Pearson set another personal best in the 200m dash with a time of 25.05 to finish fourth; that time is the ninth fastest in Conference USA.
The heptathlon will end tomorrow with the long jump, javelin throw and 800m run.
Also springing into action for the Miners tomorrow will Roberto Camacho (400m hurdles). Six distance runners will also be competing; Lilian Koech (1,500m run), Joan Jepkirui (1,500m), Cosmas Boit (1,500m), Anthony Rotich (1,500m), Daniel Cheruiyot (5,000m run) and Antony Kosgei (5,000m run).
