EL PASO, Texas -- UTEP football head coach Sean Kugler announced that 11 student-athletes have earned scholarships for the 2015 season.
Junior transfers Brendan Royal and Hayden Plinke; true freshmen Omar Lloyd and Christian Richardson; senior walk-ons Vince Czerniewski, Matthew Heard, Natanael Rodriguez, Josh Silvas and Nathan Stukes; and sophomore walk-ons Erik Ramirez and Chris Thummel are amongst the football players who earned scholarships.
For the walk-on student athletes, a 3.0 GPA must be sustained, while being on the team for at least two years. All student-athletes earning the scholarship must stay out of trouble and conduct themselves in a positive manner on and off the field.
The Miners arrived to fall camp in Ruidoso, N.M. on Aug. 5 and will practice there until Aug. 16 after the final scrimmage.
The 2015 campaign will kickoff in Fayetteville against Southeastern Conference program Arkansas on Sept. 5 (1:30 p.m. MT), while the home opener against Incarnate Word is Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Sun Bowl.
