UTEP Women's Golf Lands Second at Little Rock Classic

The UTEP women's golf team placed second at the Little Rock Golf Classic on Tuesday in Hot Springs Village, Ark.

The Miners wrapped up their fall schedule with a championship and three runner-up showings in five events.

Central Arkansas had a big day to ward off UTEP and claim the tournament title. The Bears fired rounds of 298, 295 and 298 for a total of 891.

The Miners finished six strokes back at 897 (295-298-304), and North Texas was third (299-298-301-898) in a field of 16 teams.

June Ting picked up the first individual championship of her career as she tied Central Arkansas' Brenda Gonzalez for the title. Ting shot a two-over-par 218 (70-72-76). Gonzalez posted rounds of 73, 73 and 72.

Ting, a junior from Taipei City, Taiwan, has four top-five finishes in five tournaments this season.

UTEP's Alisa Rodriguez tied for sixth place (75-75-71-221), Lily Downs tied for 14th place (73-72-79-224), Sofia Castiello tied for 57th place (77-81-78-236) and Crystal Wu tied for 75th place (83-79-79-241).

The Miners will open their spring season at the Texas State Invitational Feb. 13-14 in New Braunfels, Texas.
