ALBUQUERQUE, NM – UTEP's freshman Alisa Morozova notched a win in her final singles match and Maria Paula Medina and Milena Baigorria took down NM State's No. 1 doubles team at the Lobo Invitational on Sunday at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium and the Estes Tennis Center in Albuquerque, N.M.
Morosova notched her singles victory over Northern Arizona's Madi Moore in a close first set with coming out on top 7-6 and putting away Moore in the second set 6-3. The Flight 1 doubles match saw Medina and Baigorria triumph over rival NM State's Yadira Rubio and Lindsay Harlas 6-0, the second victory for the tandem on the weekend.
"Maria Paula and Milena played super well and Alisa had a great win today," head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "I am really happy with how the team is coming together, even without two of our top players who are out due to injury. I'm very proud of the team."
In other single's action, Erandi Martinez was edged in a close match against Northern Arizona's Brandy Walker dropping the first set 6-3, battling back in the second set winning 7-5 and edged out in the third set 7-6.
In the second flight, Medina notched a second set win against Eirene Granville, but could not hold on, falling 6-4, 5-7, 7-6. Baigorria battled against Cora-Lynn Von Dungern dropping both sets 6-2, 6-2 in Flight 5.
In doubles play, Morozova and Martinez dropped their match against Aggie duo Rebecca Keijzerwaard and Quinty Janssen 6-2.
The Miners have just four days to recuperate before traveling to compete at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational on Friday, Nov. 3, in Tucson, Ariz., which will close out the fall season.
