UTEP Women’s Golf Team Heading To Las Cruces For Tourney

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP women's golf team will make the short trip up I-10 to participate in the Aggie invitational Monday through Wednesday (Oct.  8-10) at the NMSU Golf Course (par 72/6,392 yards) in Las Cruces, N.M.

"We've had a great start to the season so far and we hope to keep that momentum going," UTEP head coach Jere Pelletier said. "The team has worked really hard in practice this week, so we should have another good performance."

The Miners are looking to continue their hot start to the 2018-19 season. UTEP finished second at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial (298-281-294—873) and captured the team title at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate (305-303-302—910).  The team is averaging 297.71 per round.

Joining UTEP in the Aggie Invitational, besides host NM State, will be Cal Baptist, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Northern Arizona, North Dakota State, Southern Utah, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, UC Riverside, Utah Valley, UTRGV and Weber State.

Heading to Las Cruces will be Abbie Anghelescu, Lily Downs, Audrey Haddad, Shannon O'Dwyer and Valeria Mendizabal. Crystal Wu and Taylor Stone will compete as individuals.

In her senior season, Downs leads the Miners through six rounds with a scoring average of 72.3. She's earned two top-10 finishes including a third-place showing at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate (220, +2).
