EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP women's golf team will return to action in the Fresno State Classic at the Copper River Country Club (par-72/6,200 yards) in Fresno, Calif., on Monday.
UTEP will play 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start at 9:45 a.m. MT.
A total of 14 schools will compete in the field including, Fresno State (host), CSU Northridge, Grand Canyon, Monatana State, Nevada, Portland State, Santa Clara, South Dakota, Southern Utah, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Utah Valley.
The Miners are coming off an eighth-place finish at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kane'ohe, O'ahu, Hawaii. Making the trip for the Orange and Blue will be senior Lily Downs, junior Shannon O'Dwyer, sophomore Valeria Mendizabal, sophomore Taylor Stone and freshman Naomi Ramirez.
Downs has competed in all but one tournament for the Miners. She's racked up the most top-place finishes for the team with five on the season and six top-10 finishes. The senior holds a stroke average of 72.9, which leads the team. She's closely followed by Mendizabal with a 73.7 stroke average.
Copper River Country Club features an 18-hole, par-72 Championship Golf course designed by architect, David Pfaff. This course, set up on the undulating terrain of the Sierra Nevada base, features water on nine of 18 holes. Since no two fairways on this course are parallel, each group can enjoy their round and also the beautiful views of the mountains and the clubhouse.
