EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP women's golf team makes its final preparations as they head to the Conference USA tournament in Fort Myers, Fla., on April 15-17.
"The team has been working hard and our big goal of the year is winning the championship," UTEP head coach
Jere Pelletier said. "We had a really good year winning four tournaments. We're playing good and if we keep shooting the scores we have been, that should give us a really good chance."
Statistically, the Miners enter the tournament ranked seventh in the league (No. 100 nationally by Golfstat). Last year, the team was ranked 107 and earned runners up.
The highest-ranked teams in the field are No. 40 Old Dominion, No. 57 Charlotte and No. 60 UTSA.
UTEP has stamped one of its greatest campaigns in program history, winning three consecutive tournaments at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Invitational, the Aggie Invitational and the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational. The Miners are coming off its fourth tournament victory at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.
Coach Pelletier's championship lineup will consist of senior
Lily Downs, junior Crystal WU, and sophomores
Valeria Mendizabal,
Audrey Haddad and
Taylor Stone.
