PALM DESERT, Calif. – The UTEP Women's Golf team finished the first two rounds of play at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in second place at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California.
In the opening round, UTEP shot 304 (+16) as a team during the first 18 holes to finish the morning in third place on Saturday. The Miners shot 300 as a group over the next 18 holes to finish the day in second place (+27) behind Cal Poly with a team total of 604. Round three is set for Sunday morning in Palm Desert.
Junior
Valeria Mendizabal was near the top of the leaderboard for most of the day on Saturday and ended the opening two rounds tied for second place after shooting 2-over-par. Mendizabal began the day shooting 2-over with a score of 74 in the opening round and followed up by shooting par later in the day in round two for a two-round total of 146.
UTEP's
Audrey Haddad ended the first two rounds tied for eighth after shooting 6-over-par 150 (75-75) on Saturday, while
Abbie Anghelescu finished the opening day tied for 19th with scores of 79 and 74 in the first two rounds.
Andrea Ostos opened the event by shooting 76 (+4) before wrapping up the day with a score of 78 to end the first day with a total of 154 and tied for 21st.
Crystal Wu closed out the day for the Miners as the senior shot 161 (81, 80) over the course of the first 36 holes.
