UTEP Volleyball Announces Four Exciting Additions for 2025

12/16/2024 5:00:00 PM

EL PASO – UTEP Volleyball Head Coach Ben Wallis announced four dynamic additions to the Miner roster on Monday afternoon, highlighting a diverse and talented class poised to make an immediate impact.

"I love the diversity, athleticism, competitiveness, and versatility in this class of UTEP Miners," Wallis said. "Not only do all of them come from accomplished clubs with great experience at a high level, but they're all accomplished winners and really are fired up about being here in El Paso to add to the next great group of Miner Volleyball players. Our city is going to be excited about the skill, athletic ability, and competitive fire that these four players bring to our program."

Mackenzi Davis – Outside Hitter – Melissa, Texas
Davis, a standout from Melissa High School, will join the Miners as an early enrollee in January 2025. She earned numerous accolades during her high school career, including Second Team All-State, First Team All-District, Offensive Player of the Year/MVP, and District Newcomer of the Year. Davis also competed with Excel Volleyball Club, placing 19th at nationals in the Open Division.

Wallis on Davis: "We're super excited to get Mak here in January as an early enrollee! She's extremely athletic, long, experienced, and is a big-time competitor. Watching Mackenzi compete in club this past season against some of the best teams in the country really made us proud knowing she was coming early to work at her craft."

Sydney Frazier – Middle Blocker – Atlanta, Georgia
Frazier, a versatile middle blocker from Atlanta Girls School and IMG Academy, brings an impressive resume to UTEP. She was named an AVCA All-American Watchlist honoree and earned multiple All-State and All-Region honors. Her club career included a 46-3 record with M2 Volleyball and an 18-1 record at IMG Academy.

Wallis on Frazier: "Sydney Frazier made the move to IMG Academy this season, and I really feel like we have one of the steals of the 2025 class coming to play for us here in El Paso. She's crazy athletic, fast off the ground, and is another competitor that we'll already be adding to this 2025 version of the Miners."

Ella Meador – Libero – Aledo, Texas
Meador, a libero from Aledo High School, has a track record of excellence, including 961 digs, 154 assists, and 79 aces in her senior year. She led her team to numerous championships (2x District, 2x Bi-District, 2x Area, Regional) and was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Meador also excelled with APV 17 National Black, contributing to their top-20 USA ranking.

Wallis on Meador: "Ella Meador comes from a very good club program that has produced several very good liberos in the past five to six years. She decided to skip her senior year in high school to enroll a year early to come and compete, which tells you a lot about how good we think Ella can be here in the Sun City."

Lexee Salas – Setter/Outside Hitter – El Paso, Texas
Hometown standout Salas, from Americas High School, has amassed 2,160 career assists, 850 digs, and 500 kills. Her accolades include being named THSCA Academic All-State Honorable Mention, Greater Texas Ford Female Athlete of the Month for District 5A and leading her team to multiple championships (District, Bi-District) her senior year.

Wallis on Salas: "Lexee Salas was an absolute surprise this summer when she popped into our gym for one of our recruit camps. Her calm demeanor, passion to win, and athleticism stood out immediately. She comes from a long line of competitive athletes, including her sister, Francquee Acosta, who played for UTEP Volleyball in 2011."
