UTEP Basketball Adds Backcourt Ace Desmond Lee

Desmond Lee, a 6-4, 180-pound guard from Norfolk, Va., has signed a national letter of intent and will join the UTEP basketball team for the 2010-11 season.

Lee was a teammate of another UTEP signee, forward Michael Haynes, last season at Heat Academy in Martinsville, Va. Lee averaged 16 points, four rebounds and four assists, leading Heat Academy to a 36-4 record and no. 4 national ranking by USPrepBasketball.com.

He was a two-sport star at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Va., playing basketball and football. Lee averaged 16 points, five rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals as a senior during the 2008-09 season. He helped the Bookers reach the Group AAA state tournament for the third time in four years. He averaged 13.1 points his junior year. He was a two-time first team All-District player and a two-time All-Eastern Region honoree on the hardwood.

Lee was a two-year varsity letterman in football, starting at free safety in his first season and quarterback in his second. He was a second team All-District signal-caller, throwing for 1,268 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 450 yards.
