Oct. 31, 2008

EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will kick off the Let's SAAC Hunger Drive tonight as the UTEP soccer team hosts Colorado College at 7 p.m. at University Field.

All fans that bring a can to tonight's soccer match will receive free admission.

The event will continue tomorrow at the football against Rice. Football fans are encouraged to bring rice and canned food items to the Sun Bowl as part of the "Bring Rice Down" campaign. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The UTEP volleyball team will conclude the drive on Nov. 7 during the team's home match against Tulsa at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym.

The drive was designed by members of the C-USA Student-Athlete Committee in an effort to combat hunger in C-USA school's communities.

Food can be dropped off during regular business hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) at the Larry K. Durham Center's Life Skills Lab from Monday (Nov. 3) through Friday (Nov. 7).

All food collected will be donated to the West Texas Food Bank.

In addition, UTEP joins forces with the Sun Bowl Association and FirstLight Federal Credit Union in the annual FirstLight Federal Credit Union Sun Bowl Parade Food Drive that runs through November 3rd.

UTEP Athletics encourages all students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to participate in the community-wide project to fight hunger in the Sun City.
