National Girls & Women In Sport Day
Each year, UTEP proudly joins the nationwide celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD)—a day that honors the achievements of girls and women in sport, highlights the power of athletics to build leadership and confidence, and acknowledges the ongoing effort for gender equity in athletics. NGWSD at UTEP features community service projects, athletic events, community events and the Flo Hyman Award Banquet, where young women from elementary through high school are recognized for excellence in leadership, academics, and sport. These celebrations are rooted in the legacy of Flo Hyman, an Olympic volleyball pioneer and advocate for equality in women’s sports, whose impact continues to inspire athletes and community members each February.
