Nineteen UTEP Student Athletes to Graduate on Saturday

Nineteen current and former student-athletes will be graduating from UTEP on Saturday.

The list includes nine from football, four from soccer, two from softball and one each from women's golf, rifle, volleyball and women's track and field.

Headlining the football graduating class are Josh Ferguson, Jamar Hunt, Terrell Jackson, Daniel Robinson and Zach West.

Ferguson earned second team All-Conference USA honors as a punt returner this season. He also contributed 56 tackles, 2.5 tackles for losses, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions, six pass break-ups and two forced fumbles while starting all 12 games at safety.

The Miners' primary tight end this season, Hunt caught 31 passes for 367 yards and two scores. He concluded his career with 91 receptions for 978 yards and seven touchdowns.

Jackson led the 2008 squad in rushing, compiling 451 yards on 107 carries with two TDs. He ran for 105 yards at Louisiana-Lafayette.

Robinson was UTEP's third-leading receiver as a senior in 2006, fashioning 37 catches for 606 yards and seven touchdowns.

West spent time in the NFL with New England and Cleveland after compiling 109 tackles, 26 tackles for losses and five sacks in 47 games for the Miners (2003-06).

Angie Kleinfelder, Cara Nordin, Brittany Popoff and Kristin Wernimont were all members of the 2005 soccer team, which posted a program-best 20 wins and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a victory over Texas in Austin.

Other graduating standouts include softball's Ashley Perez and track and field's Nelly Tchayem.

Perez led the Miners to their first-ever Conference USA Tournament win in 2008, setting league single-game records for home runs (two) and RBIs (six) versus Tulsa.

Tchayem was a two-time NCAA All-American, finishing third in the triple jump at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Meet.

Football's Chris Day, Ja-Boy Leomiti, Nu'uese Punimata and Jake Sears, volleyball's Casey McAnelly, softball's Kandice Henry, women's golf's Daniela Ito and rifle's Kayra Davila round out the list of graduates.
