UTEP Athletics Launches Canned Food Drive

Oct. 18, 2010

EL PASO, TEXAS - The UTEP Athletics Department is pleased to announce that the Miner Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has joined forces with fellow Conference USA schools to commence the "Let's SAAC Hunger" program. The initiative was designed by members of the C-USA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee with in an attempt to combat hunger in the respective communities for league institutions.

Throughout the entire month of October, UTEP's SAAC has been collecting canned and non-perishable food items. This ultimate success of the program (which runs Oct. 18-25) is dependent upon the community's support, and the Miners are encouraging individuals to contribute as many food items as possible. Food items can be dropped off in the bin in front of the Life Skills Lab (room 122), which is located inside the Larry K. Durham Center.

This week will provide a tremendous opportunity to get involved in this cause while also cheering on the UTEP football and volleyball teams.

The Miner football squad will look to keep its perfect home record intact when it plays host to Tulane at 7:05 p.m. at the Sun Bowl on Saturday. UTEP student-athletes and bins will be located at every entrance of the stadium where fans will have the opportunity to donate food items.

The volleyball team will also be in action this weekend. The Miners will challenge Memphis at 6 p.m. on Friday while facing UAB at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Both matches will be held at Memorial Gym, and fans will be able to donate the food items as they enter into the venue.
