August 25 will be a very important day for the UTEP athletic department. Our only fund-raising event of the year, Orange Fever Fiesta, will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Grace Gardens.

The UTEP athletic department receives no financial assistance from the state of Texas. It is a self-funded entity, solely dependent upon sporting event revenue and fund-raising to operate and provide student-athlete scholarships. That's what makes Orange Fever Fiesta so critical for us.

Student-athlete scholarship costs have been increasing rapidly. Just 10 years ago, they were valued at $10,786 apiece. Now, they are valued at $17,452. Nearly 300 UTEP student-athletes are on scholarship.

Orange Fever Fiesta features a steak dinner and a live auction with tremendous prizes, including football and men's basketball away game trips, trips to a Dallas Cowboys game and the NCAA Final Four, a Clear Channel advertising package and an ultimate VIP Oklahoma Game Day experience.

We're excited about bringing back famed hypnotist Doug MacCraw for this year's event. He was also our guest at the 2007 fundraiser and you wouldn't believe some of the things that he does. He puts on a fantastic show and is a real crowd pleaser.

We have gold ($5,000), silver ($3,000) and bronze ($2,000) sponsorship packages available for this year's Orange Fever Fiesta. All offer access to an exclusive VIP social at 5:30 p.m. featuring beer samplings from a large local distributor. Sponsorship packages also include tickets to the New Mexico State football game and on-field recognition when the Miners take on the Aggies.

Tables of 10 are also sold for $1,000, and individual tickets are $100.

It's all for a great cause, and I hope you'll join us at Grace Gardens on Aug. 25. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call (915) 747-8759. Our student-athletes thank you for helping to make their college dreams come true!
