Skye Schultz, Soccer
Skye Schultz continued her strong start to the season by posting a goal and an assist to help the UTEP soccer team forge a mark of 1-1-0 at the UCR Invite. The junior was involved in the eventual match-winning goal in the Miners' 2-0 triumph vs. Southern Utah on Aug. 31. Schultz redirected a service off a free kick to Azia Nicholson, who put it away to put the Miners up 1-0. In the match against the host Highlanders, Schultz afforded the Orange and Blue a 2-0 lead with her first goal since the 2010 season. She missed all of last year with an injury, but is off to a great start this year, compiling five points (1 goal, three assists) thus far.

Nathan Jeffery, Football
Nathan Jeffery ran for a career-best 177 yards on 21 carries for UTEP against fourth-ranked Oklahoma. Jeffery became the 14th Miner back to rush for 100+ yards in a season opener since 1950 and set a school record for rushing yards in a season opener, eclipsing the 164 set in 1976. Five of Jeffery's carries where for over 10 yards, including a 71-yard run that marked the fourth-best effort in the Mike Price era and the best by an underclassman at UTEP since 2001. UTEP's only touchdown of the game came at the hands of Jeffery, who returned a block punt 24 yards to reach paydirt. The Texas native compiled 219 all-purpose yards.
