Kayla Thornton, Women's Basketball
Kayla Thornton posted a monstrous double-double (15 points, 14 rebounds), including the go-ahead & eventual game-winning point on a free throw after an offensive rebound, in UTEP's 52-50 victory at previously unbeaten Kansas State. Thornton played a team-high 37 minutes, and she was big down the stretch. She had a putback off a missed free throw by Anete Steinberga to tie the game for the second time (50-50) with a 1:02 left. Thornton then came up with a defensive rebound and raced coast-to-coast on the way to being fouled to set up the game-winning free throw. Her presence on the court also aided UTEP to a 26-16 advantage in points in the paint and a 47-38 cushion for rebounds.
Chrishauna Parker, Women's Basketball
Chrishauna Parker notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to help UTEP take down previously perfect Kansas State, 52-50, on the road on Dec. 16. Parker overcame a rare off night in terms of shooting by attacking the goal and getting to the free-throw line early and often. She drilled 7-of-10 free throws while also hitting three shots from the floor. Of her 11 rebounds, five were at the offensive end.
