Jan. 13, 2014

John Bohannon, Men's Basketball
Bohannon averaged a double-double (20.5 ppg/11.0 rpg), as well as 6.5 assists and 2.0 blocks, as UTEP completed a 1-1 week with a 73-68 loss to Charlotte and a 66-56 win over Marshall. He also became the 32nd member of UTEP's 1,000-point club.

On Jan. 9, he collected 23 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal versus Charlotte, making 7-of-9 field goal attempts and 9-of-12 free throw attempts. He established season-bests for field goals made (seven), free throws made (nine), points (23) and minutes (38) against the 49ers. On Jan. 11, he recorded his 16th career double-double (tied for the 10th-most in school history) with 18 points and 14 rebounds versus Marshall. He also tied his career-best with seven assists in the game.

With two blocks against the Herd, Bohannon tied Dave Feitl for second place in school history with 137 rejections. He now has 1,004 points and has tied Feitl as the tallest members of UTEP's 1,000-point club at 6-11.

Kayla Thornton, Women's Basketball
Thornton averaged 22.5 points and 13.5 rebounds to help get the Miners (13-2, 2-0 C-USA) off to a 2-0 start in league play.

She scored more than 20 points in both of the contests, including becoming the first Miner in program history with a 20/20 game to help lead the Orange and Blue to the 97-66 win vs. Tulsa on Jan. 11. Thornton hit 56.0 percent (14-of-25) of her shots from the floor while going a combined 13-of-16 at the free-throw line. Perhaps more impressive is the fact that she logged a total of 54 minutes (26 at UAB & 28 vs. Tulsa).

In the game against TU, Thornton poured in 22 points while grabbing a school-record-tying 20 rebounds (seven offensive). She also blocked two shots and had a pair of steals.

Thornton opened the week with a 23-point, seven-rebound effort in the 85-76 victory at UAB. The senior made 6-of-9 from the floor, including 2-of-2 from three-point range, while also going 9-of-12 at the charity stripe.
