Vince Hunter, Men's Basketball
Vince Hunter tuned up nicely for Conference USA play by tallying 21 points in an exhibition contest against Angelo State on Jan. 4. Hunter connected on 6-of-10 from the floor while also going 9-of-10 at the charity stripe. He also grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists and posted one steal and one blocked shot in 21 minutes of action.
Kayla Thornton, Women's Basketball
Kayla Thornton registered a double-double (19 points, 13 rebounds) while moving within two rebounds of the career rebounding record at UTEP in its loss at Texas A&M. She was a force on the offensive glass with five caroms, and the senior was a key player during the late rally in the game that trimmed a 25-point deficit to 13 down the stretch.
