Sophomore sensation Aaron Jones came back to the Miners' starting line-up and wasted no time, rushing for 177 yards and two touchdowns to make the team bowl-eligible for the first time in four years.
UTEP defeated North Texas, 35-17, and Jones averaged 11.1 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns. The El Paso native became the ninth Miner to reach 1,000- yards in a season with a total of 1,114.
Jones had a 54-yard touchdown rush, marking the second time this season that he scored on a run of a least 50 yards. That ties him 10th nationally in multiple touchdowns of 50-plus yards in 2014.
He registered his eighth-career 100-yard rushing game of his career, which also made him ninth all-time at UTEP.
Joan Jepkirui Cross Country
Freshman Joan Jepkirui was the bright spot for the women's team at the NCAA Mountain Regional meet. Jepkirui carded an 11th-place finish; she completed her 6K in 21:27.8.
