Aaron Jones Football
Aaron Jones ran for a career-high 237 yards and three touchdowns to help the UTEP football team defeat New Mexico, 31-24, in the season opener for both teams on Aug. 30. Jones gained 158 yards on 12 carries in the opening half, including a 73-yard scoring run in the second quarter. The run was the second longest of his career and the 19th longest in school history. His other TDs on the day were a 12-yard scamper to cap an opening-game touchdown drive and a score from three yards out with 2:18 left in the contest to lift the Miners to victory. For the game he averaged an astounding 10.8 yards per carry.

Angela Cutaia Soccer
Angela Cutaia scored four goals and posted an assist for a team-best nine points to help UTEP forge a 3-0-0 mark this past week. She scored both goals in the Miners' 2-1 win against Houston Baptist in the Border Bash title tilt while also finding the back of the net in victories against NM State and Incarnate Word. Cutaia added a helper vs. IUW, making her involved with two of the four goals in that game. The junior was a nuisance for the opposition throughout each of the contests, pacing the Miners in both shots (10) and shots on goal (eight) during a busy week of action.
