Vince Hunter Men's Basketball
Vince Hunter averaged 18 points and 9.5 rebounds to aid the UTEP men's basketball team to a road sweep to start Conference USA play. Hunter connected on a combined 68.2 percent (15-of-22) of his shots in the two contests, aided by going 9-of-10 from the floor at North Texas on Jan. 2. He also hit three free throws and secured nine rebounds to lead the Miners to the 85-71 conquest against UNT. Hunter followed that up with a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) in 32 minutes of action in the 66-57 win at Rice on Jan. 4. Hunter also did damage with passing (four assists).
Lulu McKinney Women's Basketball
Lulu McKinney tallied 11 points while equaling her career high with seven assists in the 63-53 victory against Alcorn State on Dec. 28. She did a good job of taking care of the ball with a pair of turnovers and logged a team-best 34 minutes of action. McKinney was especially effective in the second half, recording both of her steals, five of her assists and seven of her points.
