Vince Hunter Men's Basketball
Vince Hunter averaged 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds as the UTEP men's basketball team split a pair of home C-USA contests. He nailed 54.2 percent (13-of-24) of his shots combined in the two games. Hunter was active on the offensive glass, with five of his 19 rebounds in the week coming at that end. The Miners fell to preseason league favorite LA Tech, 58-45, on Jan. 8 before bouncing back to rout Southern Miss, 74-40, on Jan. 10.
Cameasha Turner Women's Basketball
Cameasha Turner averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists to help the UTEP women's basketball team forge a split on its first week of road action in Conference USA this year. She did her best to keep UTEP in the game by scoring 14 points, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out three assists in an eventual 90-72 loss at Louisiana Tech on Jan. 8. Turner and the Miners would not be denied, however, two days later at Southern Miss. She finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double this year and third of her career. Turner drilled 46.2 percent of her shots from the floor and also nailed 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.
