Miners Of The Week: Jan. 19, 2015

Earvin Morris excelled on both ends of the floor as UTEP won for the 12th time in its last 13 C-USA road games, 73-55 at UTSA on Jan. 17. He scored a career-high 23 points in 29 minutes, making 9-of-15 shots and 4-of-9 three pointers. He also added three rebounds, an assist, a block and two steals. Morris made three consecutive three pointers during a 9-2 second half run that gave the Miners an 18-point lead (61-43) with 6:20 remaining. The primary defender on the Roadrunners' Ryan Bowie, Morris held him to two points and one field goal. Bowie, who was averaging 13.9 points coming into the game, shot 1-for-5 from the field and 0-for-2 from beyond the arc while turning over the ball three times.

Irene Gari Women's Basketball
Irene Gari flirted with a double-double (nine points, 12 rebounds) in UTEP's hard-fought 55-53 loss to UTSA on Jan. 17. The game featured nine ties and 19 lead changes. Gari logged a career-high 37 minutes of action, and made the most of her time by getting after it on the glass. She secured a career-high tying and game-best 12 rebounds to help give UTEP a chance. Gari was especially effective on the defensive end with 11 rebounds, also the most of her time with the Orange and Blue.
