Head football coach Mike Price announced Wednesday the hiring of Jeff Banks and Jim Clark as assistant coaches.
Banks will oversee the running backs and punters as well as serving as recruiting coordinator., while Clark will coach the cornerbacks.

Comes to UTEP after working as an assistant at Idaho State for the last three years...coached the running backs and kickers at Idaho State, while doubling as recruiting coordinator...helped the Bengals to an 8-4 record in 2003...coached three players (kicker Jeremy Hershey, punter Kyle McQuown, running back Isaac Mitchell) who earned All-Big Sky recognition last season...Mitchell rushed for 1,851 yards the last two years...also coached Eddie Johnson, who led the NCAA I-AA ranks in punting in 2001 and is currently with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings...previously served as a graduate assistant under head coach Mike Price at Washington State (1998-99)...tutored the Cougars' kickers and punters...his proteges included Kareem Anderson and Rian Lindell, who went on to enjoy stints in the NFL...Lindell is currently with the Buffalo Bills...a two-year letterwinner as a punter at Washington State...had a 42.8-yard punting average as a junior, and 43.4 as a senior...led the Pac-10 with a 43.8-yard punting average during the 1998 regular season...posted a 53.0-yard punting average versus Boise State, earning him the national AT&T Long Distance Award...selected to play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala...also played collegiately at Citrus College in Glendora, Calif...named first team All-Conference as a kicker and punter at Citrus College...graduated from Bishop Amat High School in La Puente, Calif. in 1993...lettered in soccer and football as a prep...earned a state championship ring as Bishop Amat's kicker, going 51-for-51 on extra points...wife's name is Kori...born 4/8/75 (Bellflower, Calif.).

Entering his second tour of duty with UTEP head coach Mike Price...served as a graduate assistant coach at Washington State from 2001-03, working with the Cougar defensive backs...was also a student assistant at Washington State from 1999-01...helped the Cougars to 30 wins over the last three seasons, with three bowl bids...previously was the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at West Valley High School in Hemet, Calif. from 1993-95...tutored a quarterback who led the state in pass attempts, completions, yards and touchdown passes in 1995...Clark was the quarterbacks coach at Hamilton High School in Anza, Calif. from 1992-93...he was also the quarterbacks coach at Mt. San Jacinto College in San Jacinto, Calif. from 1989-92...began his coaching career as the quarterbacks and defensive backs coach at his alma mater Hemet (Calif.) High School from 1985-89...played his collegiate ball at Mt.
