Price, Woodruff Added To Football Staff

Aaron Price and Jeff Woodruff were appointed by head football coach Mike Price as assistant coaches on Thursday.

Price will oversee the quarterbacks and kickers, while Woodruff will coach the linebackers and the special teams.

Price and Woodruff join Jeff Banks (running backs, punters, recruiting coordinator) and Jim Clark (cornerbacks) on Price's staff.

Washington State '94

Joins the UTEP staff after working at the University of Alabama during the spring of 2003 as quarterbacks and kickers coach...a 1994 graduate of Washington State, Price got his first coaching job at Cal Poly in 1994 as special teams coach...member of the Washington State staff from 1995-97 as a graduate assistant helping with the punters, kickers and quarterbacks...coached the kickers and quarterbacks at Missouri Western State (1998), and was co-offensive coordinator/recruiting coordinator at Idaho State (1999-00) before returning to Washington State for the 2001-02 seasons in the same capacity...at Idaho State, mentored Kevin McCarthy, who threw for a school-record 23 passing touchdowns and over 3,000 yards in 1999...the following year, quarterback Shane Griggs threw for over 2,800 yards and 18 touchdowns...Price was key in the development of WSU standout signal-caller Jason Gesser (now with the Tennessee Titans)...Gesser led the Pac-10 in passing efficiency (146.44), and was seventh nationally in 2002...In 2002, Price's passing attack averaged 292.7 yards per contest, fourth in the Pac-10 and 13th in the NCAA...staff member on both of WSU's Rose Bowl teams (1997, 2002)...assisted the Cougars to a 33-27 victory over Purdue in the 2001 Sun Bowl...an All-State quarterback in high school, he went on to become Washington State's regular kicker for two seasons...as a junior he hit three field goals against Arizona, including one from 51 yards and the game-winner from 47 yards out with 31 seconds remaining...had a career-long field goal of 52 yards against Temple...scored 77 points (26 PATs, 17 FGs) as a senior, which ranked eighth on WSU's single-season list at the time...his 17 field goals equaled the second-most ever by a Cougar...he closed his career with 147 points, which was fourth among WSU kickers at the time of his departure...wife is Tiffany...born 6/17/70 (Pullman, Wash.).

Jeff Woodruff (Safeties/Special Teams)
Kent State '79

Comes to UTEP after four years as the head coach at Eastern Michigan University...has participated in 12 bowl games as a coach (five Rose Bowls, two Freedom Bowls, one Aloha Bowl, one Holiday Bowl, one Independence Bowl, one Orange Bowl, one Sun Bowl)...worked at the University of Arizona as running backs coach from 1998-99...the Wildcats finished 12-1 in 1998, beat Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl and ended the year with a #4 national ranking...served as the head coach at Cholla (Ariz.) High School from 1996-97...was on staff at the University of Washington (1980-82, 1984-94), including serving time as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach...member of a coaching unit which directed the Huskies to the 1991 national title...spent one year (1983) as secondary coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Nevada...graduated from Kent State University in 1979 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education...lettered in football for the Golden Flashes...got his start in coaching at his alma mater, serving as a graduate assistant/tight ends coach in 1979...wife's name is Jill...has two sons (Jared 23, Jordan 15) and two daughters (Jessica 18, Janessa 6)...born 2/22/57 (Ravenna, Ohio).
