Miners Rated 25th in AP Poll

The UTEP football team is back in the national polls for the first time since 1988.

The Miners are 25th in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll, which was released on Sunday. UTEP received 69 votes.

UTEP (6-2, 4-1 WAC), which has won six of its last seven games, picked up 28 votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll, which would put the Miners at No. 30 in the country.

The Miners have never been ranked by AP. UTEP hasn't been ranked in either poll since finishing 10-3 during the 1988 campaign. The Miners' highest ranking that year was 22nd by USA Today/CNN heading into the Nov. 5 game at Wyoming. UTEP was 8-1 entering that contest before dropping a 51-6 decision to the Cowboys.

The Miners are idle this week and will host Rice on Nov. 13 at 7:05 p.m. Mountain time in the Sun Bowl. UTEP won its third straight WAC road game, 38-20, at San Jose State on Saturday.
