UTEP sophomore Erma-Gene Evans was named the Western Athletic Conference’s Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Last Saturday, Evans broke the Saint Lucia national record in the javelin for the second time this season with a throw of 172-10 (52.68) to take the gold at the Spira Invitational. Her mark is the second best in school history, ranks second in the WAC this year and is the sixth-best throw in the NCAA in 2005.

UTEP next competes at the 96th Annual Drake Relays from April 28-30.
