UTEP defensive back Adrian Ward was chosen by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round of Sunday’s NFL Draft.
Ward was the fifth pick of the round and 219th overall selection.
The 5-10, 170-pound Ward was a first team All-WAC choice in 2004 after tallying 59 tackles (52 solos), 12 pass break-ups and five interceptions.
A native of Oakland, Calif., Ward played for the Miners for two seasons after transferring from Chabot College in Hayward, Calif. He started 22 games at left corner for UTEP, registering 98 tackles (88 solos), 18 deflections and eight picks.
Ward became the seventh Miner to be taken in the draft in the last six years, and the first since OL Trey Darilek was chosen by Philadelphia in the fourth round in 2003. He is the first UTEP defensive back to be selected since David Terrell in 1998 (seventh round by Washington).
