UTEP senior guard Miguel Ayala was named the co-Conference USA Player of the Week on Monday, the first honor for a Miner player since joining the league this season.
Memphis forward Rodney Carney was the other winner.
Ayala scored a career-high 25 points and drilled seven three pointers in the Miners' only contest of the week - a 57-53 victory over SMU. Carney averaged 22.5 points per game as Memphis extended its winning streak to eight games with wins over UAB and UCF.
Ayala tied the school record for three pointers in a game and buried three trifectas in the final eight minutes against the Mustangs. He also hit four free throws in the final seconds to secure the Miner victory.
