Each week throughout the 2006 UTEP soccer season, a different member of the squad will write a brief journal article to give fans insight into the program. To
kick things off, senior defender Ashleigh Decker took a few minutes to write down her thoughts prior to the Miners’ matches at Air Force and Northern Colorado
this weekend.
Women's Soccer Journal No. 1- Aug. 24, 2006
Well, I’m already starting to get a shin guard tan. That can only mean one thing.....SOCCER SEASON is here!
Another training camp has come and gone, and it’s funny looking back because I always hoped for those lovely double days to hurry and pass. Now, I
wish time wasn’t flying by so quickly. I think it’s finally setting in that this is my senior season. This is the last time I will ever play college ball.
For those of you curious about the day in the life of a UTEP soccer player, season practices usually go like this: early morning weights, an afternoon
goalkeeper session, conditioning after that, followed directly by practice...not too shabby considering our summer schedule! Practices, so far, have been going
great. It was so hot during camp, but this bizarre rain has given us a break with some cooler weather.
The team has been working daily on everything you can imagine...just tuning up for an amazing season. We’ve got some high expectations to live up to
after last season’s performance!
We’re on the road this weekend to take on Air Force and Northern Colorado, and I’m ecstatic. It’s always exciting to travel with my teammates. So off to
Colorado we go. We then come back for the Miner Classic, and I can’t wait until so we can put on a remarkable performance for all of our crazy fans!
