EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP rifle team fell, 4588-4589, to Nevada on Saturday at the UTEP Rifle Range.

"Nevada is a good team who finished ranked eighth in the nation last year," said head coach George Brenzovich. "Our freshman and sophomores made a step in the right direction today losing by just one point. It was an overall good day."

The Miners dominated the smallbore portion of the match, firing 2275 over the Wolf Pack's 2260. Nevada scored 16 points (2329-2313) in air gun over UTEP's shooters to take the match.

The Orange and Blue's Amber Criss led all shooters in the three-position gun, posting a match-high 577. Morgan Glenn was not far behind shooting 572. Nevada's Dempster Christenson came in third gunning 568.

UTEP's Josie Burzynski and Andrea Palafox recorded scores of 566 and 560, respectively.

The dual came down to the wire, with Nevada walking away with the victory, as three of the Wolf Pack's shooters fired over the 580 mark in air rifle.

Andy Hickey was the day's top gun registering a score of 588 on the day. Burzynski and Palafox were not far behind, both firing 585. Christenson came in third, shooting 583.

Criss finished with 573 and Palafox rounded out the group shooting 570.

"There were mistakes this young team made that we can correct," Brenzovich said. "I hope to have those mistakes fixed before we meet with Alaska."

The Miners next head to Mississippi to take on Ole Miss on Nov. 8 for the first of two road trips. They return home to take on defending national champions Alaska on Nov. 22.
