EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP rifle team fell to Alaska-Fairbanks, 4612-4538 on Sunday at the UTEP Rifle Range.
The Nanooks dominated the match, firing scores of 2296 and 2316 in smallbore and air gun, respectively, to the Miners' 2237 and 2301.
UAF had three shooters post scores over the 580 mark in air rifle, while UTEP's Amber Criss was the only Miner to accomplish the feat. She recorded a team-high 581 in the contest. Fairbanks' Patrik Sartz was the top shooter of the day, registering a score of 586.
Andrea Palafox recorded 578 and Atenas Bojorquez (578) and Josie Burzynski (569) followed.
In smallbore, the Nanooks' Cody Rutter was the day's top shooter, firing 582. For UTEP, Burzynski came out on top, gunning 577. She was followed by Palafox, Criss and Glenn who fired 560, 552 and 548, respectively.
The Miners close out their fall season at Air Force on Thursday, Dec. 4 in Colorado Springs, Colo. They return to action on Jan. 24, 2009 at Nevada.
