Northern Arizona was victorious in five of six singles matches in handing the UTEP tennis team its first loss of the spring season, 5-2 on Thursday at the El Paso Tennis Club.
The Miners (3-1) swept all three doubles matches. But junior Weronika Bloczynska was the only UTEP player to manage a win in singles. She downed the Lumberjacks' Edit Suhajda 6-0, 6-1 at the no. 1 position.
UTEP's Marina Deluca, Megan Pritchard, Ximena Fuentes, Vicky Michaud and Amber Brightly all suffered straight-set losses in singles.
Bloczynska and Pritchard beat NAU's Orsi Golovics and Suhajda 8-4 at no. 1 doubles. Deluca and Fuentes dominated the Lumberjacks' Stephanie Vallejos and Amiee Oki in the no. 2 slot 8-2, while Brightly and Michaud prevailed over NAU's Leslie Vial and Stacey Pinchbeck at the no. 3 position, 8-5.
The Miners will host Idaho on Friday at 1 p.m. and Utah State on Sunday at 9 a.m.
