MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The UTEP softball team dropped its final match of a three game road series at Memphis, 5-1, on Sunday to fall to 23-17, 4-8 in Conference USA play.

Jennifer Davis was 3-for-3 in the outting, with a walk and scored the Miners's only run.

Stacie Townsend was the losing pitcher to fall to 10-8 on the season. She allowed five runs on six hits, struck out four batters and walked three.

Nichole Tunget, who came in relief, tossed two and two thirds innings of play and had four strikeouts.

The Miners combined for five hits and drew eight walks but struggled to bring runners home, leaving 12 on base.

UTEP took a 1-0 lead in the top off the first that started with a single up the middle by Jennifer Davis. She stole second to get into scoring position.

An out later, Ashley Ellis drove Davis home with a single into leftfield and the 1-0 UTEP lead.

Memphis answered back in the bottom of the second with an RBI-single.

The Miners had a scoring opportunity in the third inning as Davis drew a walk to get on base. Townsend walked and the two advanced when Memphis' pick-off attempt at second was overthrown.

Two flyouts later, Simone Holland drew UTEP's fifth walk of the game to load the bases. A fielder's choice by Perez ended UTEP's threat, as Townsend was out at third.

Memphis posted four runs in the bottom of the fourth the were a direct result of a defensive UTEP breakdown. A wild pitch followed by three consecutive errors drove in runs Memphis' four runs to go ahead 5-1.

UTEP followed with a bases loaded opportunity but could not convert.

The Miners return home to take on UCF in a three game series beginning with a doubleheader on April 12. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
