2008 Sun Bowl Invitational 
EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP volleyball team concluded the 2008 Sun Bowl Invitational with a loss to tournament winner Oral Roberts on Saturday night at Memorial Gym.
Senior Daidre Mendenhall and junior Cat Chavez were named to the Sun Bowl All-Tournament Team. Chavez received the honor for the second consecutive year.
The Miners matched the Golden Eagles’ intensity on the court recording comparable numbers in each category. Oral Roberts was slightly better on the serve, recording nine aces to the Miners’ four, and at the net where they registered eight more blocks than UTEP.
“We played a very good Oral Roberts team tonight,” head coach Ken Murphy said. “It’s good for us to play these good teams because they raise the level of competition.
There were times when we played good volleyball and there were times where I saw where we needed to improve.”
Chavez tallied a match-high 11 kills and six digs, while Mendenhall’s .385 hitting percentage led all Miners.
UTEP will get on the road next week as they travel to Fargo, N.D., for the North Dakota Doublewood Inn Classic for the first of three road trips.
