PROVIDENCE, R.I. -  The UTEP volleyball team capped the Friars Invitational with a 3-0 win over Providence College on Saturday afternoon at Mullaney Gymnasium.

Junior outside hitter Amy Sanders and sophomore setter Patty Jarmoc earned All-Tournament honors, the honor is the second for Sanders this season.

Sanders finished the weekend with 25 kills, 31 digs and 10 serving aces in three matches. Jarmoc tallied 71 assists, 11 kills, 10 serving aces and 10 block assists during the two-day tournament.

El Paso natives Catherine Chavez and Sanders each recorded their second double-double of the day. Chavez had another impressive performance with 14 kills, 14 digs and a .323 hitting percentage. Sanders registered 12 digs, 11 kills and a .320 hitting percentage. It was Chavez's eighth double-doiuble of the season and Sanders' seventh.

The Miners rebounded from a loss to Sacred Heart earlier in the day to defeat the Friars 25-17, 25-19 and 25-15.

"The difference between our morning match and our evening match was attitude," head coach Ken Murphy said. "We had Sacred Heart down 2-0 and we let them back in the game and that killed us. We kept fighting against Providence even when we had them down and that allowed us to get out with a win in three sets."

UTEP was effective at the net through the first two sets and outhit the Friars in third set posting a .364 attack percentage to Providence's .194.

"We have a good team and we've lost some matches in five sets and it comes to figuring out how to finish them off," Murphy said. "We're definitely able to play at anybody's level, we just have to figure out how to finish the match and i think we learned that today."

The Miners will begin league competition at home next week after three consecutive weekends on the road. UTEP will host Rice on Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. and Houston on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 12 p.m. at Memorial Gym.
