Miners Lose Battle of I-10

EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP volleyball team fell, 3-0, to NMSU on Wednesday night at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M.

The Miners dropped the first two sets, 25-10 and 25-17, before rallying to take control the third set. NMSU took an early lead, but the Miners quickly erased the deficit and led through most of the set quieting the 2,011 Aggie fans in the stands. Down, 21-19, the Miners battled the Aggies at the net before bowing out to a 25-22 final to end the match.

Junior Catherine Chavez led all Miners with 10 digs, while fellow junior Amy Sanders' seven kills led all Miners.

UTEP heads north this weekend to participate in the Doublewood Inn Classic at North Dakota State. The Miners are scheduled for two matches on Friday, Sept. 5, against Illinois-Chicago, 9 a.m. (MT), and Northern Colorado, 3 p.m. (MT). UTEP will conclude the tournament in a matchup against host North Dakota State on Saturday at 9 a.m.
