RENO, Nev. - Alix Moncada, who joined the UTEP rifle team mid-season, seems to be the answer the Miners have been searching for in 2009. After dropping six dual match competitions, the newcomer lifted UTEP past Nevada, 4592-4583 in Reno on Sunday.
Moncada led the Miners in both guns, firing match-highs of 587 and 570 in air gun and smallbore, respectively.
Amber Criss and Andrea Palafox also posted scores above the 580 mark in air rifle, as they each recorded scores of 584. Josie Burzynski notched 576.
In smallbore, Criss followed Moncada, gunning 569 while Burzynski finished with 565 and Palafox with 565.
The Miners next take on TCU on Jan. 31 at the UTEP Rifle Range.
