UTEP Postgame Notes At Memphis

Oct. 10, 2009

Recap |  Final Stats

  • The 38-yard field goal by Logan Barrett in the first quarter was a career long (previous long 31 yards versus Buffalo on Sept. 5).
  • Barrett set a career-high with his second field goal of the game in the second quarter.  His previous best was one field goal on three occasions earlier this year.
  • Elijah Goldtrap’s second catch of the game early in the second quarter surpassed his previous best of one reception on three occasions prior to tonight.
  • The 44-yard run by Marlon McClure in the second quarter tied the longest rush by a UTEP player this season.  Donald Buckram had a 44-yard run at New Mexico State on Sept. 19.
  • The interception by Dustin Bell in the second quarter was the second of his career and his first since also recording a pick versus SMU in 2008.
  • The fumble by Donald Buckram in the second quarter was just the second fumble lost by UTEP in its last nine games dating back to the 2008 season; the Miners also lost a fumble by Trevor  Vittatoe at Texas on Sept. 26.
  • UTEP had two plays for 44 yards or more in the first half.  Entering the game, the Miners had only four such plays in their first five games.
  • UTEP has outscored its last two opponents in the second quarter after entering the Houston game trailing 57-7 in the period.  The Miners outscored Houston 14-7 in the second quarter and Memphis 10-7 in the frame.
  • Trevor Vittatoe tallied his ninth career 300-yard passing game.  Six of the nine 300-yard games have come away from El Paso.  The six 300-yard passing games on the road ties the program record originally established by Jordan Palmer.
  • Kris Adams’ touchdown catch in the fourth quarter was his first of the season.
  • Jeff Moturi extended his streak of games with a catch to 30.
  • Moturi moved into sixth place on UTEP’s career catches list and ninth place on the career receiving yards chart tonight.
  • UTEP drops to 2-3 in C-USA road openers, and it snaps a two-game winning streak for the Miners in league openers away from home.
  • UTEP was denied a fourth straight 2-0 start in Conference USA play.  The Miners split their first two league games in 2005 before winning their first two in each of the last three years.
  • The Miners are now 5-12 in C-USA road games, including 1-7 in their last eight.
  • UTEP drops to 0-3 all-time versus Memphis including losses in 2005, 2006 and 2009.
  • UTEP is now 14-7 in the month of October under coach Mike Price.
