EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP rifle team captured a 4621-4616 victory over Nevada at the UTEP Rifle Range on Saturday.
The Wolfpack edged the Miners in the smallbore portion of the match, 2286-2284, but UTEP was able to come out on top in air rifle, combining for 2337 points over Nevada's 2330.
Three of UTEP's shooters fired over the 580 mark including Josie Burzynski who had the high score of 588 for the day. Alix Moncada came in second, shooting 587 and Andrea Palafox fired 585. Amber Criss finished the day with 577.
In smallbore, Moncada was the Miners' top shooter with a score of 575. Criss, Burzynski and Palafox followed with scores of 573, 571 and 565, respectively.
This concludes the regular season for the Miners who will have to wait for a final point tally from around the nation to see if they qualify for the NCAA Rifle Championships. The top eight teams in the nation are invited. UTEP currently ranks 10th.
