FORT WORTH, Texas - -Alix Moncada came within two points for qualifying for the final round of the NCAA National Championships in air rifle, but it was not close enough, as the Miner ends the season ranked ninth nationally, firing 586 to close out the 2008-09 UTEP rifle campaign. Josie Burzynski ended tied for 17th shooting 581 on the day.

Jenna Compton of Akron won the national title, hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. Compton rallied in the final round to finish with an aggregate score of 691.1, after coming in second after the second round.

Moncada, who joined the Miners mid-semester took part in just four matches for UTEP. Moncada calculated the highest combined team average in air rifle with 584.75. All of her scores were over 580, including a qualifying score of 587.

Burzynski became eligible for the event after firing a team-high 588 in the qualifying round on Feb. 14. She had six marks over the 580 mark during the 2008-09 season to combine for an aggregate score of just below 580.
