EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Trevor Vittatoe threw for three touchdowns and 327 yards while breaking a trio of school records to lead UTEP to a 44-24 over Rice on Saturday night.

Vittatoe set new career records for touchdown throws (89), passing yards (11,260) and total offensive yards (11,117).

On all three he surpassed Jordan Palmer, who played for the school from 2003 to 2006 and now plays for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kris Adams caught all of Vittatoe's TD passes and finished with 134 yards receiving for the Miners (5-1, 2-1 USA). UTEP's Leilyon Myers ran for a pair of touchdowns and Jason Williams ran for another.

The Owls (1-5, 0-2) scored first when Nick Fanuzzi connected with Vance McDonald in the first quarter, but they never led again after Myers ran in for his first TD a few minutes later.

Fanuzzi finished three touchdowns and 201 yards.
