UTEP Postgame Notes

  • Today's game marked the first time in four meetings between UTEP and UAB that the home team emerged victorious.

  • UTEP had its four-game winning streak snapped and sustained its ninth consecutive Conference USA road loss.

  • The Miners drop to 1-3 versus UAB and 6-11 versus C-USA's Eastern Division. UTEP had won its previous two games against East teams.

  • For the second time in seven games, UTEP's opponent failed to score on its initial drive of the game. NM State punted on its first drive Sept. 18. Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Houston, New Mexico and Rice scored touchdowns, and Memphis kicked a field goal.

  • The 48-yard pass from Bryan Ellis to Jeff Anderson in the first quarter was the second-longest allowed by the Miner defense this season. Houston's Case Keenum had a 61-yard completion to Patrick Edwards on Sept. 10. UTEP hadn't allowed a completion longer than 25 yards in any of its previous four games.

  • The Miners were held scoreless in the first quarter for only the third time in their last 17 games (Memphis this season and UAB last season). In four games versus UAB all-time, UTEP has scored a total of six points in the first quarter.

  • UTEP's first points had been a touchdown in five of the first six games prior to today. The Miners also started their scoring with a field goal against Memphis.

  • he interception by Trevor Vittatoe in the second quarter was only his third in his last 277 pass attempts dating back to the 2009 season. Vittatoe had been turnover-free in the previous two games.

  • UTEP didn't score a touchdown in the first half for only the second time in its last 17 games (Memphis this season).

  • The last time UTEP shut out an opponent in the first half of a conference game was on Oct. 7, 2006 versus SMU. The Miners led 17-0 at the intermission of that contest.

  • The last time UTEP shut out a league opponent in the first half on the road was on Oct. 7, 2000 at Tulsa. The Miners led 27-0 at the break of that game.

  • UTEP led at the half without scoring a touchdown. The last time that happened was in a 13-10 triumph over New Mexico on Sept. 4, 1999. UTEP was ahead 6-3 at the midway point of that contest.

  • Kris Adams extended his streak of games with a catch to 31. Adams passed Bob Wallace into seventh place on the UTEP career receiving yardage list with 2,184 yards. He also passed Wallace into 10th place on the career receptions chart with 124.

  • Donald Buckram passed Robert Elliott into ninth place on UTEP's career all-purpose yardage list today. He now has 3,337 yards.

  • Trevor Vittatoe now has 11,429 career passing yards, moving into 20th place on the all-time NCAA list after passing five players (Western Michigan's Tim Lester, Western Michigan's Tim Hiller, BYU's Max Hall, USC's Carson Palmer, San Diego State's Todd Santos) today.
